Nower Care
The Care Home remained open during all the construction works. The Nower Care project was carried in three phases as follows:
- Phase 1 Bickerstaff Annex commenced from March – December 2002.
Phase 2 Watson Wing commenced from July- December 2005.
Phase 3 Dyson Wing commended from August 2008 and expected to be finished by February 2009.
H.A Marks are currently building their third project at Nower Care. Each was won in competitive tender. On all the projects they have shown the attention to detail that is required to carry out building works on a confined site adjacent to an operational Care Home.
The issues that we had to overcome was construction of new wings to a Residential Care Home on a tight sloping site between two existing buildings occupied by the Care Home. The ground conditions were sand and the only access was via a 4m wide drive. The Care Home remained open during all the construction works.
We successfully overcame the key issues by ensuring the following:
- 1. All risks were assessed and detailed method statements had to be strictly adhered to.
2. All deliveries of plant and materials had to be supervised.
3. Fire access to the Care Home had to be maintained at all times even if this conflicted with the progress of the works.
